Loos argues that the excessive use of ornamentation is superfluous and that only form matters. This vision resonates in discourses on colour, perceived by some as a filter altering the original truth of black and white.
Through two contemporary black and white films, La Haine by Mathieu Kassovitz and Control by Anton Corbijn, and a black and white and colour film, Stalker by Andrei Tarkovski, I will analyse the place of colour, going beyond its misleading aspect.
